Stories that refuse to fit the mold — from the page to the stage to the screen.
Los Angeles, California
Rena Patel spent a long time being told to fit into boxes she wasn't made for. She tried. It didn't take. Now she writes stories about women who refuse to do the same.
Based in Los Angeles, Rena is a writer and producer whose work spans television, theatre, and literary fiction. She was a writer on Peacock's The Warehouse Phase, a Finalist for the IFFLA Launchpad Pitch Competition, and a Bay Area Playwrights Festival Finalist for Pyar aur Coffee — a play that sold out its initial run and keeps finding new stages. Her fiction and poetry has been published in South Asian SOAR's Sanctuaries Anthology, The Sunflower Station Press, and The Calendula Review.
Off the page, she produces. From 2022 to 2026, she served as Executive Director of Imaginarium Theatre NY. She recently produced her first feature film, and produced Mayuri Bhandari's The Anti-Yogi at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As of 2026, she is the Director of Business Affairs for Space Pirates Theatre Collective. She is part of the creative team at Bootleg Universe Media Group / Shankar Animation. She holds a BA in English from Scripps College and a JD in Transactional Entertainment Law from Loyola Law School. She's always looking for the next story that refuses to fit the mold.
